How to Prevent Holiday Weight Gain

How to Prevent Holiday Weight Gain

It's hard to believe that winter is almost here again.

DO YOU HAVE A PLAN TO SET YOURSELF UP FOR SUCCESS?

This is the time of year when it's easy to derail your health & fitness goals.

We have multiple holidays back-to-back-to-back, and all of them involve food and/or alcohol.

It's extremely easy to gain a bunch of unwanted pounds if you stuff your face all winter. So let's not do that.

Instead, approach the winter with a plan. And it doesn't have to be a complicated one...

On the most basic level, weight gain comes down to calories in versus calories out.

Energy consumed versus energy expended.

The simplest way to combat weight gain is to consume less.

And to consume less requires no effort. It literally requires NO EFFORT not to do something. And it requires no extra time.

Sure, it may take mental willpower, but that is not actual effort.

It's not the same as jogging for miles and miles and miles just to burn off 1/3 of a candy bar. That takes willpower as well. But your lungs burn, your legs hurt, and you want to die the entire time too. It's two different things.

So, here's your plan if holiday weight gain is a problem for you. And because I'm such a nice guy, I'll give you two options...

Option 1) Fast for 24-hours the day before & the day after a holiday.

Example. Thanksgiving is on November 25th. On November 24th & 26th, I would not consume any food those days. Water, black coffee, and calorie-free drinks are fine. If this seems challenging, do your best to stay busy and mentally focused on other tasks.

Option 2) Consume only one meal a day during weeks with a holiday, and enjoy as much food as you want on the holiday itself.

Example. Christmas Eve & Christmas are on December 24th & 25th. If I really want to enjoy ALL THE FOOD both days, then I would offset those calories by having one meal a day, starting the Sunday before from the 19th to the 23rd. The more I fast beforehand, the more I can enjoy the holiday meals and the leftovers afterwards, without doing as much damage.

See, it doesn't have to be complicated.

BUT IF HOLIDAY WEIGHT GAIN IS A PROBLEM FOR YOU, IT WILL REQUIRE A FIRM DECISION ON YOUR PART TO PREVENT IT FROM HAPPENING AGAIN THIS YEAR.

And if you need someone to keep you accountable, I'm always here to help.
